Barbara Guschwan, LCSW
 
 

 

Barbara Guschwan worked as a psychiatric nurse for 15 years prior to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. During this time she worked with all populations on inpatient psychiatry and did group therapy. She created and facilitated "Empowering Women", a group therapy for women in the community in transition. She was a member of the Joliet Multi-agency Rape Taskforce and completed a 40 hour sexual abuse training through the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault. She also had a private outpatient practice for rape and incest survivors. She has worked in the Illinois Department of Human Services Sexually Violent Person's Program.
Barbara received her undergraduate degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of St. Frances. She completed her Master's Degree in Social Work and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the George Williams College of Social Work at Aurora University. Her internships included child and adolescent psychiatry, substance abuse, and outpatient therapy with adults, children, and families. She also created and facilitated "Night Writers", an expressive writing group for the mentally ill. Barbara's interests include working with depression, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, the effects of emotional health on physical health and trauma survivors. She is also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Level I and II training).
