Dr. Susan Charow Sherman is originally from Boston, Massachusetts, where she was a concert pianist before attending medical school.  She graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1977.  She completed a medical internship, then a residency in psychiatry at Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Harvard Medical School, where she was chief resident of the Day Hospital, in 1982. She completed a fellowship in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in 1982.  She went on to practice psychiatry and psychopharmacology in private practice in Concord, Massachusetts.  She moved to Illinois with her family in 1990. Dr. Sherman took time off to raise her family and pursue other interests in music, art and literature.  She resumed her medical career in 2005, completing a fellowship in addiction psychiatry at Northwestern Medical School in Chicago. Dr. Sherman had been in private practice with Central Professional Group in Joliet for three years, prior to joining IPD in August 2009. She is interested in all areas of general psychiatry, and in addictions, including addictions to substances and to behaviors; and in learning to live in the moment and how past and future awareness distort capacity for happiness and fulfillment in the present. Dr. Sherman practices in the Joliet IPD location.
