IPD Approach
We start by understanding the nature of the problem. Every individual or family is unique and presents a different combination of symptoms, life circumstances, family histories, strengths and difficulties. By conducting a comprehensive evaluation we try to understand the entire person – their relationships, work life, lifestyle, values – for these factors also influence mental health and psychological adjustment. The initial evaluation provides the clinician with the information needed to recommend the most appropriate treatment. Once the nature of your problems are understood, a treatment plan will likely be recommended. We encourage you to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about the treatment that is recommended for you.
It is our belief that the pain and suffering of emotional distress can damage the quality of an individual's life, family and marital relations. We believe that with effective treatment an individual can regain, or attain for the first time, a vastly improved quality of life.

Medication
Some of your symptoms may reflect a brain chemistry disturbance. Individuals with a brain chemistry imbalance have trouble coping and tend to interpret life situations in a more negative manner. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication to normalize brain chemistry. In addition, psychiatrists conduct individual psychotherapy.
Individual Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy involves talking through one’s problems with a clinician. Clinicians trained in psychotherapy are clinical psychologists, social workers, addictions therapists and psychiatrists. Psychotherapists focus on many things – how patterns of thinking may effect feelings and behavior, whether or not your coping style is working or how your past may be affecting your view of yourself and your relationships.
Couple & Family Therapy
In this type of psychotherapy, the entire family or marital couple talk with a therapist about the problems that are occurring within their relationship. The focus in these type of therapies is on “here and now” stressors or problem solving skills. Other times the focus may be on how past experiences influence the current difficulties.
